GKS TYCHY - HOME SHIRT 2024/2025
GKS Tychy were founded in 1971 as Górniczy Klub Sportowy, a name that translates simply as Mining Sports Club, reflecting the industrial roots of Tychy, a Silesian town built up around coal and heavy industry under postwar planning. The club play their home games at the Stadion Miejski, a 15,300-capacity ground in the centre of town, and have spent the vast majority of their history shuttling between Poland's second and third tiers.
The 2024/2025 season, during which this classy home shirt was worn, was the club's 54th in its history and a ninth consecutive campaign in I liga, the Polish second division. Under manager Dariusz Banasik, Tychy finished 7th of 18 with 53 points from 34 games, just three points shy of the promotion play-off places occupied by Miedź Legnica and Polonia Warsaw. It was a season defined by balance rather than swings: 41 per cent of their league matches finished level, and a healthy plus-11 goal difference from 47 scored and 36 conceded pointed to a side that was hard to beat rather than one chasing promotion outright.
There were no deep cup runs to speak of this season, Tychy's involvement in the Polish Cup brief, with the league campaign remaining the clear priority. The season did open in style, though: a crowd of 4,231, the biggest of their year, packed the Stadion Miejski for an opening-day 2-2 draw with Miedź Legnica that set the tone for a campaign built on stalemates as much as wins.
Banasik's side avoided defeat in more than three quarters of their league fixtures without ever launching a serious promotion push, banking enough steady form to finish comfortably in the division's top half for a ninth straight year in I liga. It is the kind of unglamorous, solid campaign that keeps a club exactly where GKS Tychy have long been: a fixture of Polish football's second tier, patiently waiting for the platform to climb again.
