İSTANBUL BAŞAKŞEHIR - CONFERENCE LEAGUE AWAY SHIRT 2024/2025
İstanbul Başakşehir are one of the newer powers in Turkish football, founded in 1990 as the municipal side İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor and relaunched under their present name in 2014. Rooted in the Başakşehir district on the European side of Istanbul, they are known as the Turuncu-Lacivertliler (the Orange-and-Navy Blues) and the Boz Baykuşlar (the Grey Owls). They play at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, a 17,800-seat arena opened in 2014 and named after the legendary coach Fatih Terim.
This classy away shirt was worn through the 2024/2025 season, the club's 35th and an 11th consecutive campaign in the Süper Lig under manager Çağdaş Atan. Başakşehir finished a creditable 5th on 54 points, with 16 wins from 36 matches. The reward was a return to Europe, the Conference League place cascading down to fifth after Galatasaray sealed a domestic league-and-cup double.
The away shirt was built for continental travel, and there was plenty of it. Başakşehir negotiated three qualifying rounds, La Fiorita of San Marino thrashed 6-1 along the way, to reach the Conference League's 36-team league phase. Facing Rapid Wien, Celje, Copenhagen, Petrocub Hîncești, Heidenheim and Cercle Brugge, they gathered one win and three draws, finishing 26th and missing the top-24 knockout play-off places by the narrowest of margins. The Turkish Cup brought a group-stage exit.
The season belonged to Krzysztof Piątek. The Polish striker, once of AC Milan and Genoa, top-scored with 21 goals in the Süper Lig and 31 in all competitions, firing Başakşehir through their European nights almost on his own. A classy change shirt from another campaign in which the Orange-and-Navy Blues flew the flag on the continent.
