KIGEZI HOMEBOYZ - HOME SHIRT 2026/2027
Kigezi Homeboyz were founded in 2011 and fly the flag for the Kigezi sub-region in the far south-west of Uganda, based in the hilly border city of Kabale. They are nicknamed the Gorillas, a nod to the mountain gorillas that draw visitors to the misty forests on their doorstep, and they play at the KHB Al-Madinah Stadium. For years they were the only side from the region competing in the country's top two divisions, which makes them a genuine standard-bearer for a part of Uganda that rarely features on the national football map.
This season carries real weight, because the Gorillas enter it as a top-flight club for the very first time, and this celebratory home shirt marks that arrival. They earned promotion by finishing fourth in the 2025/26 FUFA Big League on 51 points, sealing their place with a commanding 2-0 win over champions Blacks Power at their own ground. In doing so they became the first club from Kigezi to reach the Ugandan elite in 25 years, the last being Horizon FC at the turn of the century. Veteran coach Joseph Harold Mutyaba, a 54-year-old CAF A licence holder, was appointed on a two-year contract to lead the charge, and the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League campaign is now under way.
The promotion run itself produced the memories that fans will retell for years. A late winner from Abonga edged a tense meeting with Wakiso Giants in the promotion race, the sort of nervy, high-stakes afternoon that stays with a support, and the clinching victory over Blacks Power at a packed KHB Al-Madinah Stadium turned the whole of Kabale out in celebration.
Off the pitch the club strengthened in readiness for the step up, bringing in experienced coach Kefa Kisala to bolster the technical team and completing the signing of Henry Kitegenyi as they built a squad fit for the Premier League. With a committed patron backing the project, their story remains young and still being written, a regional club climbing out of the mist, and this first top-flight home shirt is a piece of genuine history for anyone who loves an underdog.
