FC UTRECHT – HOME SHIRT 2008/2009

FC Utrecht is a professional club based in Utrecht, Netherlands.  Utrecht is a University city in central Holland, famous for its medieval centre and tree-lined canals. The club was formed in 1970, following the merger of several local clubs. 

They play at the 23,750 capacity Stadion Galgenwaard, and are nicknamed Domstedelingen (The Cathedral Citizens).

Utrecht play in the Eredivisie, the top Dutch League, from which they have never been relegated.  

The 2008/2009 season was one of turmoil off the pitch. Real Estate giants Phanos purchased the club in 2007, with the intention of selling the stadium for development. This was met with significant resistance from the fans and ultimately Phanos decided to sell the club again in 2008.

The team finished in 9th place in the Eredivisie.

More recently, in the season 2019/20, they finished 6th in the league, just missing out on European places but did reach the Dutch Cup Final before losing to Feyenoord.  

Utrecht are considered the team most likely to challenge the Dutch ‘Big Three’ clubs: Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.
