WEST BROMWICH ALBION – HOME SHIRT 2009/2010
West Bromwich Albion is a professional football club based in West Bromwich, West Midlands. One of the founding members of the Football League in 1888, the club, who are affectionately known as The Baggies, play their home matches at The Hawthorns. West Bromwich Albion share long-standing rivalries with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with whom they contest the fiercely competitive Black Country Derby.
The Baggies wore this classically designed home shirt during the 2009/2010 season, their 107th campaign in the Football League. Having been relegated from the Premier League the previous year, West Brom continued their partnership with English manufacturer Umbro. Curiously, for the second consecutive season, the club went without a shirt sponsor having been unable to find one.
Before the season began, Tony Mowbray departed his role as manager to take charge of Celtic. He was replaced two weeks later by former Chelsea midfielder and future manager, Roberto Di Matteo. Under Di Matteo’s leadership, the team enjoyed a strong campaign, earning automatic promotion back to the Premier League with an impressive 91 points. Chris Brunt finished as the club’s top scorer in the league with 13 goals.
In domestic cup competitions, West Brom’s performances were respectable if unspectacular. They exited the League Cup in the third round following a 2–0 defeat to Arsenal. They reached the fifth round of the FA Cup before being knocked out by Reading, after a replay.
