WIGAN ATHLETIC – THIRD SHIRT 2022/2023

Wigan Athletic, nicknamed The Latics, are a club from Northern England with a unique and eventful history. Traditionally considered a smaller side in the English football pyramid, Wigan rose to prominence after reaching the Premier League in 2005. Their greatest achievement came in 2013, when they stunned the football world by winning the FA Cup Final 2013, defeating Manchester City - only to be relegated from the Premier League in the very same season. As a result, remarkably, the club were competing in the Championship and European competition at the same time!

The 2022/2023 third shirt stands out as one of the club’s most meaningful and symbolic designs. Unlike traditional kits, this shirt features a distinctive pattern made up of names printed across the fabric. These names represent FansFund Founders who signed up to the #BELIEVE FansFund before 16 January 2022. FansFund is a monthly subscription program created to help clubs recover from administration, enabling supporters to impact footballing strength.

The shirt was worn during a season that saw Wigan competing in the Championship following promotion the season before. Unfortunately, Wigan were relegated, finishing rock bottom on 42 points following a 3 point deduction due to their financial troubles.
