WIGAN ATHLETIC - HOME SHIRT 2025/2026

Wigan Athletic, nicknamed The Latics, are a football club from the town of Wigan in Northern England, founded in 1932 and based at the Brick Community Stadium since 1999. Historically Wigan are a relatively small club, but they were promoted to the Premier League in 2005 and famously won The FA Cup in 2013 - beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final - before getting relegated from the top flight the same season. As a result, they were playing European football whilst in the Championship!

The Latics wore this traditional home shirt during a turbulent 2025/2026 campaign - their third consecutive season in League One, the third tier of English professional football. Ryan Lowe was sacked in February after a 6-1 thrashing at Peterborough left Wigan 22nd and in the relegation zone after 29 matches. Gary Caldwell was brought in from Exeter City a week later and oversaw an impressive turnaround that lifted Wigan out of trouble and to a 16th-place finish.

What this season is best remembered for, though, will be the cup-ties. The Carabao Cup run was nothing special, ending in the third round after a 2-0 home defeat to fellow League One side Wycombe Wanderers. The FA Cup. however, yielded a fourth-round trip to Arsenal at the Emirates after wins over Hemel Hempstead Town, Barrow and Championship Preston North End. Unfortunately for Wigan though, Arsenal scored four times in the opening seventeen minutes and the dream was over.

January loan signing Joe Taylor was the spark behind Caldwell's revival, scoring 15 League One goals and finishing joint-eighth in the division's scoring charts.
